ismail1BDL has now expanded its already extensive product and solutions portfolio after signing on as Acer’s distributor for UAE and the GCC in a move that bodes well for one of the biggest distributors in the region and one of its fastest rising brands

Customers of BDL Group can look forward towards an enhanced product and solutions portfolio its product offering after the Dubai-headquartered distributor a recently signed as a distribution partner for Taiwan-based PC maker Acer Group for the UAE and other GCC markets.

BDL Group’s appointment follows Acer’s decision in March this year to reassign the distributor as its partner in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

BDL Group will supply the retail and traditional dealer channels in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain with Acer’s consumer and commercial range of products including tablets, projectors, display panels and notebooks including the Extensa and Aspire range.

Tamer Ismail, CEO, BDL Group, said the company is delighted to have extended its partnership with Acer and is looking forward to growing this business in the UAE. “We have worked with Acer in the past from 2003 to 2008 and helped the vendor to develop its notebook business in KSA, Egypt and Iraq,” he said.

Acer recently unveiled an exciting new product line-up at its first ever annual showcase in Dubai. The new products include Aspire R series convertible notebooks, Aspire Switch series 2-in-1 PCs, Iconia series tablets, a Liquid series smartphone, and a sneak peek in to Acer’s plans for a wearable technology device. Acer also seems to have successfully navigated a corporate turnaround moving from a hardware vendor to an ITC (Information, Technology, Communication) company offering hardware, services and solutions from one source. During the last two quarters, Acer experienced a gain in market share and successfully stabilized as a company.

Ismail said the latest deal for the UAE market will see BDL supply channel partners with the vendor’s commercial and consumer range of products. “We are delighted to have extended our distribution partnership to address the UAE and other GCC countries in addition to the KSA. Acer is a brand we are familiar with and having worked with the company in the past we believe that the business we will do going forward will be a win-win for both companies,” he said.

Ismail said the UAE remains a strategic and important market for BDL group. “We are planning to grow our business in the UAE and the rest of the GCC just like we have done in KSA,” he said.

“Partnering with Acer not only broadens our product portfolio, but also gives our channel partners to work with a distributor that is a one-stop shop. We will be growing Acer’s share in the market.” Ismail said the company will also help to support Acer’s with post-sales support.

David Drummond, vice president, Acer Middle East and Africa, said, “BDL has been doing a fantastic job in re-establishing Acer in the Saudi Arabia channels.  The history between Acer and BDL goes back a long way and it’s great to see the old partnership so effectively revived.  In view of the success of the relationship in Saudi Arabia, BDL and Acer have been working tactically on a number of projects across the GCC and we are delighted with the results.”

Apart from Acer, BDL also distributes other major brand names in computing, smart phones, Printers, Peripherals, software and Consumer Electronics. It maintains 6 strategically located warehousing facilities, comprising more than 40,000 sq. ft., in Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar (Saudi Arabia) and Cairo (Egypt), Jebel Ali, Dubai (UAE) serving more than 2700 resellers.
