Dubai Governmental ‘Open Data Portal’ prevents fees duplication

Government of Dubai’s Department of Finance (DOF) revealed at GITEX a unique digital portal to educate individual and corporate customers on governmental fees and fines.

The Open Data Portal for Governmental Fees and Fines will also prevent fees duplication, according to DOF, the one and only reference point for governmental fees and fines in the Government of Dubai.

DOF envisioned having a sophisticated open data portal that would be easily accessible to the public. The idea behind creating this sophisticated data portal is to share information related to fees, fines, charges, tariffs and taxes that are charged by various government entities. The government entities generate revenue across various activities and services. These activities may include the sale of goods, services or various taxes.

Based on Law No. (26) of 2015 regulating data dissemination and exchange in the Emirate of Dubai, the Open Data Portal for Governmental Fees and Fines aims, in its first phase, at availing data about all the fees and fines imposed by the Government of Dubai to the public and different sectors. The innovative dashboard will show all services provided by the Dubai’s governmental entities, along with their fees and related penalties.

“Building a unified governmental fees and fines database will allow government entities to know each other’s fees and fines”, said Jamal Hamed al-Marri, Executive Director for Central Accounts, DOF. “Knowledge sharing will not only spur the entities to propose new ideas to develop the government revenues, but will also contribute greatly in ensuring there is no duplication of fees and fines across the entities and therefore increase the results efficiency to close to 100 per cent.”

The open data portal is a platform which can be accessible to the public including tech savvy users who would like to interact with the data or view underlying patterns in the data. Finesse has offered a comprehensive solution for the Department of Finance by creating an interactive web based data portal. This solution also makes it easy for a user to analyse, filter through data, find trends across the data, and download this information. The data portal makes it easy for a user to find associations between data.

Sunil Paul, Co-Founder and COO of Finesse said: “We are happy to have associated with DOF to implement this prestigious project connecting individuals and corporate to providing deeper insights and maintain transparency among all the stake holders. We are happy that Finesse has been able to offer the Department of Finance the first of its kind QAP implementation is in this region.”
